The Society of Exploration Geophysicists Delivers a Free Competency Management System for Its Members
New Competency Management System Now Available to SEG’s Members Worldwide
The SEG Competency Management System is available at no cost to SEG’s 24,000 members from 126 countries, and is accessible from the SEG.org website. Powered by IHRDC’s CMS Online software, it enables individuals to assess their current professional capabilities against ten specific competency models that meet global industry standards for key geophysics job positions. Since the geophysics competency models were developed and vetted by oil and gas industry experts, they represent the primary functional skills an individual should demonstrate to perform specific geophysics jobs at an acceptable level. This system will be especially valuable for SEG members employed by small- to medium-sized organizations who may not have access to similar in-house training resources as their peers in larger organizations.
“The new SEG Competency Management System represents a cornerstone in an integrated career development process for our members,” said SEG Executive Director, Dorsey Morrow. “We envision that it will help open the door to many new opportunities for professional growth.”
Once users take the self-assessment, they can then identify competency gaps and refer to related training resources designed to develop their professional careers. These will include the SEG’s extensive archive of more than 650 technical papers, SEG training courses and workshops, augmented by hundreds more that are part of IHRDC’s IPIMS library of upstream e-learning courses – all available for immediate purchase. The system’s individualized Development Plan and competency gap training will thus serve as an ongoing training resource for SEG members who want keep to their skills current and credentials consistent with prevailing standards.
“We are delighted to be partnering with IHRDC, a trusted provider of training and competency development for the oil and gas industry,” declared SEG incoming Board President William Abriel. “We see this step as advancing the mission of the SEG to advance the science of geophysics and provide value for our members.”
The CMS Online application is available to SEG members on the organization’s website at www.seg.org/competency-management.
