Workshop

The petrochemical business workshop is an integral part of the learning process and a challenging business game. Participants, divided into teams, make the real-life technical and financial decisions that confront managers in the international gas business today, while exploring and developing the petrochemical business of a major gas discovery over a simulated 20-year period. Approximately one-half of the program is devoted to workshop sessions. This classic IHRDC business game and workshop consistently leads to very high praise from participants for its realism, stimulation of the learning, and the benefits of working in teams with delegates from many other countries. Team performance is measured on a financial basis and a healthy competition exists among the teams to achieve the best overall financial performance.

The setting of the Workshop is the Republic of Singnam, which is located between Vietnam and Singapore. Your affiliate has made a significant gas discovery and is in the process of planning its development. The gas contains gas liquids, which may be processed and recovered as NGLs or fractionated and separated into LPGs. Your team is offered the opportunity to develop the petrochemical affiliate by buying gas and gas liquids from the affiliate at a fair netback price. The petrochemical markets are the local and regional markets which have been growing rapidly. The decisions is now yours: what will you build and how will you enter the various markets?

Workshop sessions include:

• Workshop Introduction and Team Formation
• Identifying Petrochemical Project Opportunities and Business Plan Requirements
• Technology and Petrochemical Market Options
• Project Economics and Financial Projections for each Opportunity
• Financing Options and Initial Project Decisions
• Later Year Decisions
• Review of Results and Prepare Team Presentations
