Unit One Objectives
Unit One of this program covers all aspects of effective management communication, including communication strategy (audience analysis, credibility enhancement, message structure, and channel choice); written documents (including writing faster and more effectively, with special tips on email); presentations (including PowerPoint and nonverbal delivery); meeting management (including setting agendas, facilitating discussion, and making decisions in groups); and one-to-one interactions (including listening skills and effective body language).

This unit provides an ideal skill-building workshop for the active oil and gas manager who wishes to improve his/her critical communication skills.

Instructional Format

The instructional format is a combines lectures, workshops and exercises that are ideally suited to building communication skills.

The program content enables participants to develop the following key skills:

    Choose a style, enhance your credibility,
    analyze and persuade your audience, structure your message, and choose the best communication channel (written communications vs. presentation vs. meetings vs. one-toone conversation).

  • Write more effectively
    Write faster, structure and organize documents, and use e-mail.

  • Make more effective presentations
    Structure, presentations, make the best use of PowerPoint and other visual aids, and improve nonverbal delivery skills.
  • Run more efficient meetings
    Set the agenda, facilitate the discussion, record ideas, make decisions, and follow up.

  • Speak one-to-one more effectively
    Asking open questions, paraphrase responses, listen effectively, and use good body language.
