Objectives
This Shared Learning Workshop is designed for those who seek to expand their
competencies in the management of upstream assets. A major portion of the
learning is achieved through the practical and realistic application of
asset management principles to the integration of upstream technology, best
operating practices, economics, contracting, risk assessment and markets
to a realistic workshop assignment. The objective of the assignment is to
achieve the highest value from the management of upstream petroleum assets
over their lifetimes.
Learning Format
The learning format includes presentations by industry specialists and,
most importantly, the shared learning that occurs among teams of participants
as they face a realistic and challenging upstream business game. Actual
reservoir data and specially developed in-house software are used in this
simulation workshop.
Who Should Attend
Specialists in upstream petroleum and natural gas asset management, especially
those involved in upstream technology, management, marketing and operations
will find this shared learning program to be especially useful. Participants
with background in other specialties will find the program challenging
and will also be able to make significant contributions to the team decisions.
Workshop
The workshop setting is the Republic of Sucre, located next to Venezuela
in Latin America. The Exploration Team has identified a significant prospect
for drilling and it is up to the Workshop teams to manage the development
and production of the prospect through the end of the production license.
The exploration, field development and ongoing production decisions are
made in light of technology, economics, finance, available markets, changing
prices, and political disruptions. Teams are free to develop and manage
the field according to their own best judgement; however their financial
performance is measured and the team that demonstrates the best performance
is awarded the Workshop Prize.
Computer and Software Resources
Each team will have access to a PC/Workstation and IHRDC software to be
used to undertake the assignments. This will include IPIMS.ep, IHRDCs
E&P learning system. Participants who have access to a laptop are
encouraged to bring it with them for their use during the program.
Program Location and Accommodations
The program will be held at the John Hancock Conference Center in the
attractive Back Bay section of Boston. Known as America's Walking City,
Boston is also the historical, educational, and cultural center of the
United States. For your convenience, IHRDC has reserved guest rooms for
program attendees at several area hotels. Enrollees needing assistance
with accommodations should contact IHRDC for bookings. Rooms are limited-early
