This highly regarded natural gas business
management program will be offered twice in Boston during 2003.
Managers at all levels of the organization will benefit from
this carefully designed, integrated gas business program. Lectures
by carefully selected faculty are devoted to the important aspects
of today’s integrated international gas industry, from
exploration and field development to the key gas markets including
LPG, gas distribution, power generation, petrochemicals, gas-to-liquid
conversion and LNG projects. An integral part of the program
is the team participation in a highly regarded, integrated gas
business workshop. During the workshop, participants, working
in teams, develop and manage a vertically integrated gas business
over a 20- year horizon. This program consistently receives

UNIT 1: Financial and Risk Analysis of
Oil, Gas and Power Projects |
June 2-6
|

This week is devoted to three
major areas: (1) developing the skills required to prepare comprehensive
financial analysis templates using Excel and the presentation
of results using Power Point; (2) using those templates to model
a selection of international oil, gas and power projects power:
and (3) learning to analyze project risks and incorporating
those risks into the model projections. Focus will be placed
on three projects: an exploration and production project, a
pipeline project; and a gas-fired project. Teams of participants
will present their analysis of the projects at the end of the
week. |

UNIT 2: Commercializing Oil, Gas and Power
Projects |
June 9-13
|
| |
During this week participants
will learn the procedures required to commercialize energy projects
from initial screening studies through financing, construction
and start- up. In essence they will continue the work of Unit
One by developing business plans, negotiating key project agreements,
planning the development schedules, analyzing all risks, securing
financing for the projects, and managing them through start-
up. The projects will then be managed over a simulated period
of 20 years. |

UNIT 3: International Oil, Gas and Power
Agreements & Regulation |
June 16-20

This week allows managers, lawyers
and regulators to learn the structure, major provisions and
negotiation pitfalls associated with the key agreements involved
in oil, gas and power projects. A second focus of the week is
to learn the important elements of oil and gas regulation: regulatory
authority, regulatory practice in various countries, and the
important roles that regulators play in successful commercial
oil and gas projects. Attendees will become familiar with the
important roles that lawyers, regulators and managers play in
the negotiation and implementation of energy projects. |

UNIT 1: Effective Business Communication
for Oil and Gas Managers |

This program is devoted to all
aspects of management communication: written documents, including
email, power point presentations, communications with senior
management and various stakeholders; verbal communications,
including running meetings, making presentations to senior management
and stakeholders, and more formal speeches to outside organizations
and the press; and the new world of video and internet-based
media presentations. This important week is facilitated by Mary
Munter, who teaches Effective Business Communications at the
Amos Tuck School of Management at Dartmouth College and for
many major companies worldwide. |

UNIT 2: Essential Negotiation, Management
and Leadership Skills
for Oil and Gas Managers |
June 9-13

This important week allows participants
to gain a comprehensive understanding of the key skills required
by successful oil and gas managers and executives. The first
half of the week focuses on learning and practicing, with realistic
oil and gas case studies, the highly regarded negotiation process
developed at Harvard University that is outlined in the book
"Getting to Yes". The second half of the week is devoted
to cataloging the critical skills required of oil and gas managers
as they move from first management positions to senior executives.
Participants will find this week to be a valuable way to identify
their own needs and, more importantly, to develop a competency
model for their own organization. |

Petrochemical Business Management Program |

| This program is designed for those who seek a
comprehensive understanding of today's international petrochemical
business with emphasis on new project development. This intensive,
one-week program examines the integrated technical, economic,
business and market factors that shape the international petrochemical
industry today and the management skills needed to operate effectively
within that industry. The instructional format consists of a
careful balance of lectures by experienced experts and a practical
"business game" workshop. In the workshop, participants,
working in teams, make actual technical and financial decisions
as they develop and integrated petrochemical business in the
fictitious Republic of Singnam in the rapidly growing markets
of Southeast Asia. The IHRDC petrochemical business simulator
allows teams to monitor and review 20 years of "real-life"
decisions. This careful balance of lectures and workshops is
an ideal way for participants to acquire the management skills
and business knowledge needed by today's industry manager. |

This is the thirteenth offering
of this carefully designed oil and gas management program which
participants have consistently called the BEST management program
in the petroleum industry today! This four- week program, open
to all levels of management, can be taken consecutively in one
year or individually over a period of a few years. The first
two weeks are devoted to an intensive and comprehensive presentation
of the key business aspects of the international petroleum industry,
from upstream to downstream. The final two weeks cover the important
functional management topics and leadership skills needed to
remain competitive in today’s industry. Coverage includes
the technical, economic, environmental, legal, financial, marketing,
human resources and accounting issues facing today’s manager
in each of the functional areas of the petroleum industry. This
is followed by strategic planning, organizational change, and
project-related management know-how; and key leadership and
negotiating skills required by today’s international petroleum
industry manager. The instructional format includes a careful
balance of lectures by a strong and diverse faculty chosen for
their excellent communication skills, and a challenging petroleum
business workshop in which participants build an integrated
oil company. |
