The Building Blocks of Career Plan

Structurally, Career Plan links three major databases to a customized reporting system.

The Employee Database
The Employee Database contains detailed information about each employee, including personal and job-related data, education and prior experience, and completed and recommended individual training and development activities

Career Development Planning System
The Career Development Planning System provides a framework for building career development plans. The basic career development unit is called a career module.

The focal point of each career module is a job ladder, which shows a group of job titles related by common skills, and depicts their developmental relationships to each other. Supporting information for each job title on the ladder completes the career module. This supporting information for each title includes:

Job Specification: A brief description of the job's duties, that identifies special skill or background requirements, and specifies the job's position within the career module;

Career Development Activities: A list of courses, self-study materials, on-the-job assignments, and professional activities which will enhance employees' performance;

The system is integrated with individual employee files so that the career plan devised for each job title serves as a career development guide for employees holding that title.

The Training Resource Database
The Training Resource Database is a registry of all courses, self-study programs, suggested on-the-job assignments and professional activities either inside or outside the company ton help employees enhance or gain the competencies, skills and experience they need for professional development.

The data are sorted for access by topic area, and include detailed information no training providers, schedules and costs.
